Applicant Evaluation
APPLICATION EVALUATION
Before embarking on the application process, we kindly request that you take a moment to review crucial information regarding the necessary school report cards, English as an Additional Language (EAL) support, and Special Education services. Understanding these aspects is essential to ensuring a smooth and well-informed application journey. Your familiarity with these details will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of our educational support systems and enrich your experience with us.
REPORT CARDS
The student report cards are key to helping us make the right admissions decision. Any application to Elementary, Middle or High School should be accompanied with the last two years of school reports, including the report cards from the current school year (if issued already).
All non-English report cards should be accompanied by an English translation.
ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE
Lincoln Academy proudly embraces a diverse community of learners from various cultural and national backgrounds, with English being the primary language of instruction.
Our fundamental objective is to foster students’ academic success within the regular classroom setting, empowering them to become proficient independent learners. Achieving this goal necessitates the development of well-rounded academic language skills encompassing reading, writing, listening, and speaking. To facilitate this, our English as an Additional Language (EAL) program is meticulously designed to assist English language learners in honing these essential skills.
For students in grades K-5, the Child Support Team (CST) evaluates potential EAL students, while the Student Support Team (SST) conducts assessments for grades 6-12. Admission to Kindergarten through middle school is contingent upon the student’s proficiency in academic English, native language literacy, and academic school records. EAL students recommended for the beginning level are accepted provided that a suitable program can be tailored to meet both the student’s needs and the school’s requirements.
In the secondary school, new high school students must possess an advanced level of English proficiency to handle the linguistic and cognitive demands of the curriculum. It’s important to note that students admitted in grades 9-12 are expected to be independent of EAL support, ensuring they can fully engage and succeed in their academic pursuits.
SPECIAL EDUCATION
Lincoln Academy does not provide specific programs for students who have previously been enrolled in self-contained special education programs or have had private assistants in their previous school classrooms.
To assess whether a student’s unique learning needs can be accommodated within our educational framework, the child study team and administration will conduct a thorough evaluation. Parents are expected to share all relevant reports and evaluations related to the child’s diagnosis once their learning needs are identified. This information is crucial for us to determine the best possible support and ensure an inclusive and effective learning environment for every student at Lincoln Academy.
